Female gidayu Koshiko Takemoto collaborated with a Kabuki actor to recreate a classical masterpiece, resulting in a work that boldly yet delicately combined the similar yet different expressive forms of gidayu and Kabuki.

Profile

Koshiko Takemoto
Became a disciple of Koshimichi Takemoto in 1972, performing onstage for the first time at Honmokutei Theater in 1974. Since then, she has won numerous prizes and plays a central role as a female gidayu performer.
In 2000, Takemoto was designated an important intangible cultural property in the gidayu-bushi category (general designation). In 2007, she became the first female gidayu artist to perform Sujoruri (bunraku recital without puppets) overseas (France).
