Business Overview

"Open Water" is a project that aims to revitalize Tokyo as a water capital in the 21 century by reaffirming the role that rich water veins have played in Tokyo's history and exploring the potential of water through the creative power of art. "Open Water" has held research and art events at Tokyo's waterfront, and this time, Akihide Saito will hold an exhibition titled "Tokyo Gravel". This exhibition focuses on two themes: (1) changes in the course of the Tama River, which have been occurring repeatedly since about 80,000 years ago; and (2) the Tokyo gravel layer, a stratum that supports a group of skyscrapers. He traces the course of the rivers that formed Tokyo, researches the channels of the past that cannot be seen now, and unearths the image of Tokyo lying underground through photographs and video works. In addition, an artist talk will be held and will be released at a later date.
