Business Overview
"Sumida River: All Things, Dreams in Ink" (commonly known as Sumiyume) is an art project that began in 2016 with the opening of the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Sumida, where Katsushika Hokusai spent the last 90 years of his life, is a place where people who express themselves in all aspects of the universe, not just in the arts and culture, come together, and by developing projects utilizing a variety of resources and venues, the project aims to liven up and brighten up the area. Sumiyume is comprised of two pillars: a public project that invites and realizes a wide variety of proposals with the main themes of "Hokusai" and "Sumida River," and an impactful sponsored project. The sponsored events include: 1. "Sumiyume Tanabata", an online composition workshop by musician Nomura Makoto, concerts such as "Hokusai Manga Quartet", and talk events such as "Edo Vegetable Medicine Box" by food company EAT&ART TARO, which will also be streamed online; 2. A sailing of contemporary artist Suzuki Yasuhiro's masterpiece "Zipper Boat" on the Sumida River; and 3. A participatory project by artist unit KOSUGE1-16, "Dondoko! Giant Paper Sumo - Hokusai Sumiyume Tournament", which will tour four locations in the ward and hold the main tournament in Ryogoku. [Sumida River Forest Bansho Sumi ni Yume Executive Committee]
In Sumida Ward, many efforts have been made to utilize local resources through art, such as citizen-led cultural activities and the Sumida River Art Project. SUMIYUME inherited the accumulation of these activities and the human network, and started with the opening of the Sumida Hokusai Museum. The executive committee is composed of Sumida Ward, tourist associations, Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association and other related organizations, as well as people involved in art who have been active in the ward and neighboring areas. The Sumida Ward Culture Promotion Foundation serves as the secretariat.
