Business Overview
In the Meiji Gakuin Chapel (a tangible cultural property designated by Minato Ward) which was built over 100 years ago and is known for its design by the architect Vories, they hold concerts of Western music mainly Baroque music including Johann Sebastian Bach using a pipe organ which is said to have the 'tone of the Bach era'. The Meiji Gakuin Chapel is usually closed to the public because it is used for school events, etc., but on the occasion of a concert, leaflets will be distributed to the district center and shops in the neighborhood shopping district so that local residents can participate in it. Meiji Gakuin is a comprehensive educational institution with 1 junior high school, 2 high schools, 6 universities, 15 departments, and 7 graduate schools, 12 majors, with a 155 year tradition that originated from the Hepburn School established by the American medical missionary J.C. Hepburn in 1863 (Bunkyu 3).

Profile
[Jan Ernst (Organ)]
Born in Norden, Germany. He studied under Harald Vogel at the North German Organ Academy and in ecclesiastical music at the Hamburg University of Music. After passing the State Examination for Church Musicians (A) in 1989, he received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study under Hans van Nieuwkoop at the Swerink Conservatory in Amsterdam. Won the first prize at the 1989 Lubec Organ Competition. Since 1992 he has taught organ and organ improvisation at the Hamburg University of Music, and since 1993 has been cantor and organist at Schwerin Cathedral. While giving concerts in European countries, the United States and Japan, he is active as a conductor of church music.
[Meindert Zwald (Countertenor)]
Born in Indonesia. He studied under Peter Koei at the Froningen School of Music in the Netherlands and at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, and attended master courses by Max van Egmont, Jos van Immerseel and James Bowman. He has performed in European countries, Canada, USA and Japan. He is a promising countertenor who has performed on numerous CDs as a soloist since publishing his first Baroque solo CD in early 1995. He is currently active in various places with organist Jan Ernst.
