Business Overview

With ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock prints) and other artworks by Katsushika Hokusai managed by Tokyo's Sumida Ward, the museum introduced a part of the culture of the common people dating back to the Edo period and introduced the charm of the riverside of the Sumida River that continues to this day. By collaborating ukiyo-e with traditional Japanese performing arts such as kouta, bunraku, rakugo, and ohayashi, we offered a new way of looking at these arts and arts and helped deepen understanding. - Performance format: Against the backdrop of 24 ukiyoe prints and other works of art by Katsushika Hokusai, 2 bunraku puppets perform a tragic love story of a young man and woman who have bloomed on the banks of the Sumida River. The music is performed by 2 kouta performers who are good at the stage and perform 21 kouta, and 1 rakugoka who is not good at the stage performs the performance. In the wings of the stage, three musicians produced sound effects with flutes and drums.

Profile

[Ming dusk kouta]
A kouta performance unit established in 2020 by kouta performers and teachers, Mieka Senshi and Misaki Kouta. In addition to planning and holding kouta concerts with ukiyo-e images of Katsushika Hokusai in the background, a video of a performance at a building designated as an important cultural property in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, was released on YouTube. Recently, she has been performing at lectures organized by drama essayists, and has been working to raise awareness and spread kouta, a traditional performing art, without sticking to the traditional style of kouta concerts.
