Business Overview

Focusing on the accordion, which celebrates its 200 year anniversary, and the Japanese sho, said to be the prototype of the accordion, a total of 10 new pieces written by 5 composers were performed for the premiere. The Sho, a gagaku instrument, and the accordion, a Western musical instrument, have similar sound principles, but the subtle differences in timbre and tuning create a mysterious and meditative field of chords when played together. However, duets of both instruments are rare, and solo pieces of each instrument are also rare. At the concert, I was able to present it from the perspective of each of the five composers. In particular, the harmonious acoustics of both instruments, with subtle differences in pitch, showed the attractiveness and potential of this instrument composition. In addition, it was possible to combine them with advanced technologies such as electronics, demonstrating that both instruments with a long tradition can be "harmonized" with modern technologies.
