Business Overview
With a history of more than 380 years, the Yuki theater of Edo Itoayatsuri dolls, designated as a National Record Selected Intangible Folk Cultural Property and an Intangible Cultural Property of Tokyo, performs works by the writer and director of modern theater, Jeong Yishin, utilizing their technique and expressive power. This play is a reprise of the work which was written and first performed in 2007. During World War II, puppets play the roles of people living in Dolls Town, a fictitious town in the middle of the war, and after the war, human beings play the roles of people who reminisce about that time. The actual puppeteers play the roles of Okame and Hyottoko, middle-aged postwar itinerant puppeteers. Depicting the appearance of weak but strong ordinary people who survive during the war, this is a moving story that creates a comical yet tragic spectacle with "laughter," "tears" and "wonder". Main performers Magosaburo YUKI XII, Chie YUKI, Ikuko YUKI, Kazuma YUKI, Mei OKAIZUMI and other puppeteers at the Yukiza Main staff Script and direction: Yoshinobu TEI, music composition: J.A.
