Arts Council Tokyo was established in November 2012 within Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture following discussions at Tokyo Council for the Arts, a Governor-affiliated organization which makes policy recommendations designed to comprehensively and effectively develop measures for promoting culture in Tokyo.
In order to strengthen its structure and functions, in 2015 the organization was restructured and merged with the Tokyo Cultural Creation Project Office, which works on project development in collaboration with arts and culture organizations and arts-related NPOs. As designated administrator, we work in cooperation with the metropolitan art museums, museums, theaters, concert halls, and other facilities we manage and administer, playing a key role in implementing Tokyo Metropolitan Government cultural policies, and developing a range of projects designed to boost the appeal of Tokyo.
