Greetings from the Chancellor

The challenges and contradictions faced by the international community due to the COVID-19 pandemic and conflicts occurring around the world have come to light all at once. As a member of the international community, Japan is losing its presence in the international community as problems that are difficult to resolve, such as the extreme deterioration of national finances, population decline, and the decline of rural areas, have come to light more clearly.

Even in such a situation, our country's culture still has a strong presence. In particular, it is the arts and culture that have attracted a great deal of attention and received high praise from overseas. The creation and dissemination of art and culture in Tokyo, which is the center of such activities, has attracted the attention of not only Japan but also overseas. Even if the economy and other social activities are not as vibrant as they used to be, Tokyo will become even more attractive if it actively engages in activities to create and disseminate art and culture and enrich the culture of everyday life.

If there is a sense of fulfillment and vitality in culture, the spring of the social trampoline will be springy, and activities there will be able to take a high leap, and indeed, it will be possible to create innovation in art and culture. The aim of the activities of the Arts Council Tokyo is to contribute to the realization of a fresh and vibrant society through such rich and creative cultural activities.

In this age of upheaval and increasing complexity, it is time to demonstrate the power of arts and culture, and the Arts Council Tokyo is determined to play its mandated role in enhancing the attractiveness of Tokyo as a world-class city of arts and culture.

Thank you in advance.
