2021 Arts Council Forum

Held forums on contemporary and important topics in the field of arts and culture. Through discussions among arts councils, arts and cultural exchange facilities and institutions, artists and researchers in Japan and overseas, the conference aims to become a forum for communicating and discussing arts and cultural activities suitable for an international city.
International collaboration of arts and culture is an important factor in enhancing the creativity of the city and creating new values in Tokyo. This forum will invite international experts to delve deeply into the situation of artists and cultural institutions in the global arts scene, the importance of international networking, and the role of cultural policy.

Production and Connoisseurship to Support Artists

The Arts Council Tokyo, a public interest incorporated foundation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, is holding a forum on the role of art and culture as an international city.

This time, we will focus on producers and coordinators who support artists in the environment surrounding the fields of art, theater, and animation. Through management, marketing, and promotion, how can we bring out and produce the talents of the creators and expressers? We will think about the ability to discern new talents.

In recent years, there has been much discussion about the "value" of art and culture. Behind this is the fact that the continuation of activities to create art and culture was threatened amid the drastic changes in the social structure following the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, the national and local governments have further extended financial relief measures. At the same time, the meaning of supporting arts and culture is being questioned more than ever before, and there is more interest in its value and its relationship to people's lives.

However, the expression of the "value" of art and culture is complex, and the content of the expression changes depending on the situation and what value is discussed. Sometimes it can be difficult to get an objective evaluation from a third party. In order to ensure the long-term continuity of artistic activities and to define further perspectives and goals, strategic planning can clarify the results of activities and present various values. In this forum, we invite guests who are in a position to identify and nurture the value of art and culture in each field, and hear their real opinions from the field.
