Business Overview
■The Producer Series Irvin Arditti opens a series in which the producer of the year takes a unique perspective on contemporary music and introduces his works. In 2024, Ervin Arditti, the founder of the legendary quartet "Arditti String Quartet," which celebrated 50 years since its formation, was invited as a producer, and the track of Arditti String Quartet over 50 years including 3 newly commissioned works was programmed for 4 performances. The creation of many string quartets in modern music is clearly due to their bold performance. It was a performance that showed that they are a leader quartet that will lead to the future. ■ Suntory Hall International Compositions Commissioned Series No. 46 (Supervisor: Toshio Hosokawa) Theme Composer Philippe Manuli Featuring Philippe Manuli, a leader in the contemporary music world in France, this series of commissions invites theme composers active at the forefront overseas to compose works. He was able to embody the pedigree of French music from Debussy to Manuri to the next generation as music. With a large orchestral composition, co-creation between Japanese musicians and composers, and a composition workshop for young Japanese composers, we were able to create opportunities for musical and personal exchange with composers that went beyond mere concerts. ■ The 34 Akutagawa Yasunshi Suntory Composition Prize Selection Concert Although the Akutagawa Yasunshi Suntory Composition Prize has some challenges in selecting winning works through open screening, holding a concert with a demonstration is a valuable part of a competition for composers and works. In parallel with the official results selected by the selection committee, the "general election," which is selected by visitors' questionnaire, has become established, and the contest has become closer to a "communication-type contest" in which the audience can participate and cheer rather than simply watch, and the candidate composer can feel how the audience feels about his or her work.

Since its opening, Suntory Hall has led Japan’s classical music scene presenting creative and high-quality programmes by world’s most acclaimed artists. Suntory Hall’s Summer Festival, a festival of contemporary music that has been held since 1987, and the Chamber Music Garden, an early-summer chamber music festival that began in 2011, the 25th anniversary of the hall’s opening, today attract international attention.
