FY2023 2nd Term Grant for Artistic City

Business Overview

In this project, various films such as Lost in Translation, Like Somebody in Love, and Coffee Time Light, which capture the city of Tokyo from various angles, were shown. Featuring a diverse range of guests, including Like Somebody in Love cinematographer Katsumi Yanagishima, assistant director Shore Golparian, music critic Peter Barakan, and comedian Issei Hitoshi, they unraveled why Tokyo has fascinated and stimulated the creativity of artists around the world. Visitors were shaken by the image of the city by placing themselves in various Tokyo/TOKYO that have been left on the screen beyond time and space, and by participating in the talk session about the film and Tokyo, they had the experience of reconstructing the concept of Tokyo/TOKYO. In addition, I was able to sense the multilayered charm of Tokyo from the memories and stories told by the city.

[Eurospace]
Founded in 1977 as a cinema club. In January of the same year, the German New Film Festival was held for the first time after World War II. He has introduced many of Germany's leading directors to Japan, including Wim Wenders. In 1982, Eurospace opened a mini-theater in Sakuragaoka, Shibuya. Along with 'Cinema Square Tokyu,' he pioneered the mini-theater boom. After that, he imported mainly new European and New York independent films and Asian films. Rationing continues.
