Business Overview

This is the first of 4 lectures and concerts held over a period of 3 years from September this year, 100 years since the birth of G. Ligeti, to June 12, 2026, 20 years since his death. Students of Ligeti who were deeply involved with Ligeti will be invited and their memories and testimonies will reveal the truth about Ligeti that emerges from unknown aspects such as Ligeti's composition instruction, personality and friendship. For the first time, H. Dreyer, a student and pianist, was invited. The aim is to create a "new place" that bridges the past and future of contemporary music, and to open up new possibilities for interpretation of the work. Profile

[György Ligeti 100th Anniversary Lecture & Concert Executive Committee]
Takano Mai, head of the executive committee, graduated from the Department of Composition at Toho Gakuen School of Music, then studied composition under Professor György Ligeti at the Graduate School of the Freiburg University of Music and the Hamburg University of Music, where she completed her Master's degree. She then stayed at Northwestern University as a special trainee dispatched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Through her encounter with her teacher Ligeti, she developed and established her own unique and original style of composition, and has taught at universities both in Japan and abroad. The executive committee members are experts in contemporary music who will carry Ligeti's achievements into the future.
