Business Overview
Jewish Israeli writer Einat Weizmann created the documentary Prisoners of the Occupation with former and current Palestinian prisoners. We performed "I, Dareen T." a monologue by the world-famous poet Darlene Turtur, who was arrested and imprisoned for posting on social media. Japanese performers and production staff stayed in the country (work in progress) and reformed the film into a Tokyo version. Prisoners of the Occupation is a film in which Carmel Berscher and three Japanese actors take turns playing prisoners, guards, and interrogators, recreating various prison scenes including incarceration, interrogation, torture, hunger strikes, solitary confinement, daily routines, transfers between prisons, and family visits. There are also letters that Weizmann received from other prisoners in prison and scenes that Waleed Dhaka, a famous writer who has been in prison for more than 30 years, wrote and sent to Weizmann. In "I, Dareen T." Mai Morio played the three roles of the writer, Darlene and herself. Through this project, I was able to convey to the audience the facts that are actually happening in Palestine, and it gave me an opportunity to think about reality again.
