Business Overview

Utopia proposed an alternative community to capitalism. It was an equal, clean, crime-free, complete place. Tama New Town, which was planned in Japan to make up for the housing shortage after World War II, also aimed at utopia. Spacious parks designed to reach residents, stainless-steel kitchens and car-free paths were designed. However, in the early days of the project, Tama New Town faced many local and social challenges, including a lack of infrastructure such as a train station and a lack of cultural facilities and places to raise children. The men went to work during the day and the women were left there. They sat around a table in the new town, made up for the lack of infrastructure, and solved problems through community. Their work to fill the void of utopia was creating, so to speak, another utopia. How can utopia exist now? This exhibition will create a place for artists and researchers to observe and share Tama New Town.
