Profile

"Issui MINEGISHI, the fourth head of the Seigyodo ichigen koto family"
He was a great-great-grandson of Kota TOKU, the founder of the Seigyodo ichigen koto school. He succeeded to the fourth generation at a young age. He graduated at the top of the 40 class of NHK Traditional Japanese Music Technician Training Association. In order to pass on the tradition of ichigen koto music, which flourished during the Edo period and was originally an instrument for spiritual training, to the next generation, he gave concerts of new classical pieces in Japan and abroad and also taught them. In addition, he is searching for a new expansion with arts other than music such as dance and drama. In 2009, he won the bronze prize in the one-string and two-string instrument category at the Delphic (Cultural Arts Olympics). He received a grant from ACC to study in New York in 2010 and Taipei in 2013. In 2017 he toured the United States, giving workshops and concerts in 13 locations with American shakuhachi musicians Ralph Samuelson and Elizabeth Brown.
