Business Overview

In order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, this subsidy project has been suspended.

As the market for traditional crafts has shrunk due to changes in lifestyles, the traditional industry now faces the challenges of a declining community of craftsmen, a shortage of successors to traditional techniques, and finally, Japan faces the crisis of the disappearance of tradition. Meanwhile, Tokyo is home to cutting-edge art, design, and technology. 9+1 is made up of artists, designers, and engineers who pursue cutting-edge expression in the creative field, and aims to create "cutting-edge traditional crafts" that match modern lifestyles by combining traditional craft techniques with art, design, and technology. In this project, five new works will be produced by combining technology and craftsmanship of materials such as lacquer and copper, and will be exhibited at Milan Salone. His works include lacquerware that creates structural colors by changing the wavelength of light by applying thin films at the nano level, textiles and clothing that are integrated with lacquer materials, and works that use the magnetism of lacquer materials to move still life by applying lacquer.
