Business Overview

For the first time in 3 years, the Yomiuri Japan Symphony Orchestra welcomed Tatsuya Shimono, who has worked with the orchestra as its principal conductor and chief guest conductor for about 10 years. Mr. Shimono presented a unique program focusing on contemporary composers with two opposing axes: "static and dynamic" and "the former Soviet Union and the United States," and conveyed the diverse appeal of music to the audience. The Yomiuri Japan Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1962 to promote and popularize orchestral music by 3 companies of the Yomiuri Shimbun, Nippon Television Network, and Yomiuri Television.
In April 2019, the German master Sebastian Weigle was appointed as the 10th permanent conductor. Her Imperial Highness Hisako, Princess Takamado, has been appointed as an honorary advisor, and conductors include Sylvain Kambleuran, an honorary conductor Temirkanov, and Tadaaki Odaka, an honorary guest conductor. As a representative orchestra of Japan, the orchestra is actively engaged in concert activities centering on "regular concerts."
