Business Overview
This is the second concert of the "Saxophone, Japanese Instruments and Contemporary Music Project," a series of commissioned and presented works for the saxophone and Japanese instruments. In this event, the duets of saxophone and Japanese drum and saxophone and koto will be performed for the first time by commissioning composers in Japan and overseas, and the possibility of new sound by new instrument composition that has never existed before will be explored and presented. In addition, we will explore the roots of traditional Japanese musical instruments, share a deeper understanding of the creation of works with the audience through talk sessions with composers, and consider new ways of passing on traditions. The performers are Masanori OISHI (saxophone), Masaru TSUJI (Japanese drum) and Shie NICHIHARA (koto). The commissioned composers were Shinichiro IKEBE, Yoichi SUGIYAMA, Wachiko KOIDE and Julian MAROSENA. Program: Yoshiro Irino: saxophone and koto concerto duo, Ranrin-tongo (koto classics), Julian Marosena: Distance and feel (world premiere), Wako Koide: Bone (world premiere), solo/Japanese drum, Yoichi Sugiyama: Jeux III (world premiere) for saxophone and Japanese drum, Shinichiro Ikebe: What can you do with reeds and leather? Profile
【 Saxophone × Japanese Instruments × Contemporary Music Executive Committee 】
It was established by Masanori Oishi, a saxophonist, as an organization for commissioning and performing works for the saxophone by Japanese composers, commissioning contemporary works for the saxophone and Japanese instruments to Japanese and foreign composers, and planning and presenting concerts. The aim is to explore the unique potential of the saxophone as well as new music and acoustics through fusion with Japanese musical instruments, and to transmit them not only to Japan but also to the world.
Masaki Oishi's album "SMOKE: Japanese unaccompanied saxophone works" won the Excellence Award of the Japan Arts Festival in 2019.
