Business Overview

This performance was directed by Suketaro HANAYAGI, and Asakusa Geigi Ren, Hokanshu and Akasaka Geigi Ren also appeared as guests. The program includes traditional dances handed down in the Asakusa geisha district, such as Asakusa Meibutsu, skits performed by Hokanshu, dances performed by Akasaka Geisha Renren, and a new celebratory song named after the new era, Akesome Reiwa no Kotohogi (Lyrics and choreography by Sutaro HANAYAGI, music by Naofumi KOJIMA, music by Tazaemon MOCHIZUKI, music by Tahachi MOCHIZUKI and flute accompaniment). In the exhibition hall on the 1st floor, there was a tea ceremony of 1000 houses of Edo where geisha served tea, and a demonstration and sale of traditional crafts such as amezaiku, ginsaiku, and kumihimo, which are active in Taito-ku. As a preliminary event, they performed geisha dances at Sanja Matsuri Festival and Tanabata Matsuri Festival in Asakusa, held a rehearsal for success from Kaminarimon Gate to Senso-ji Temple before the performance, and dedicated geisha dances at Kaguraden Hall in Asakusa-jinja Shrine. Organizers, performers and representatives of local organizations participated.

【 Asakusa Odori Executive Committee 】
Asahi-kai was established in 1995 (1995) to develop a new style of Asahi-kai, which was held as part of the restoration festival after the war to promote the arts of Asakusa Geigi. The aim is not only to hand down the skills of the Asakusa Karyukai, but also to create opportunities for new added value and regional solidarity in the tourist area. It consists mainly of ryotei, geigi, and homa in Asakusa Hanamachi, as well as leaders of dance, traditional Japanese music performance, and tea ceremony.

Hanayagi Futaro
Born in Tokyo in 1960. He is active as a teacher of the Hanayagi school, a dancer and a choreographer. He has had many overseas performances. He studied direction under Yukio NINAGAWA, and took charge of choreography not only for commercial plays, but also for dance performances at the Creative Dance Theater of the Dance Association and dance performances in Hanamachi. He has created many new works for dancers. He received the Arts Festival Award from the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 1990 and many other awards for his sponsored performance, 'Kaga no kai' (The Festival of Flowers), in which he presented classic and new works. He is currently an associate professor at the Department of Traditional Japanese Dance, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, a director of the Japan Dance Association, a director of the Hanayagi-ryu Hanayagikai, and an instructor of traditional performing arts at Matsuo-juku.
