Business Overview

The Arakawa Africa Executive Committee conducts a multi-cultural art project every year, focusing on the similarities and differences between Japan and Africa, examining the lifestyles and values of both countries through exhibitions and dialogues, and providing opportunities for the general public to enjoy and learn about a multicultural society. This is Arakawa Africa's first "Artist-in-Residence" project, inviting Masai Nbili, an artist group based in the Kenyan slum Kibera. While staying in Arakawa Ward, OGU MAG recreates the place of art activities, not the same space as Kibera, but the place itself is created as a new art with elements of Arakawa, and workshops and works are created based on dialogue and research. Through exchanges with local residents, discussions at the symposium on the production and exhibition environments of artworks in Japan and Africa, AIR projects, and community activities through art, it is hoped that creative relationships will be built not only with Arakawa-ku but also with art-related people and artists in Japan.
