Business Overview

Sukiyaki Tokyo introduces the artists who perform at Sukiyaki Meets the World, which has been held every August since 1991 in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. You can enjoy the performance of the most advanced artists of world music. This 9th edition will feature live performances by three high-profile groups, Aka-Seka Trio (Argentina), Gili Yaro (Israel/Ethiopia) and The Paradise Bangkok Moram International Band (Thailand), as well as music experience workshops and talk sessions held for the first time in Tokyo. World music is created by artists adding originality to the music rooted in the region, such as tradition, community, and identity. Profile

[Sukiyaki Meets the World Executive Committee]
The first World Music Festival was held in August 1991 as a project sponsored by the Fukuno Cultural Creation Center, which opened in March of the same year, and has continued every year since then. At present, in addition to about 10 domestic and foreign artists each year, the exhibition has expanded to include citizen participation workshops and residency programs before and during the exhibition, as well as domestic performances and overseas tours centered on Nanto, Tokyo, Nagoya and Naha.
The most distinctive feature of the festival is that it is a "citizen participation festival" that is planned and operated by more than 200 citizen volunteers. In order to deepen understanding of multiculturalism with world music as a starting point, and to establish and operate a system of the project in cooperation with citizens, the project takes the form of an executive committee led by citizens, and carries out activities in cooperation with the city, prefecture, media, and embassies of various countries.
