Business Overview
Japan is an "island" country, but the "island" is separated from the "center" by the "sea" and has a unique semantic magnetic field. The island's isolation reflects the harsh conditions under which modern humans live. This work shows the exposed solitude of an island woman through harsh and humorous physical actions, strange equipment, and live sound resonating with her voice. This play focuses on every minor individual who is oppressed by the tyranny of the "center" and grows old and dies alone. An old woman. A small island surrounded by the sea, with few inhabitants and travelers. In order to create a place where she can settle down, the woman, with trembling hands and feet, tries to create an "island" in a small island as a tiny place only for her. It's as if that's all she wants. However, the "island" fluctuates constantly and is never fixed. A physical play that wrestles with a strange swaying island. Profile
【ARICA】
In 2001, director Fujita Yasujo, poet/critic Kuraishi Shino and actor Ando Tomoko established ARICA. It is a physical theater that collaborates with people who are active in various fields for each work and goes beyond the framework of theater to correspond with creative work such as dance, art and music. Through site-specific approaches that identify the characteristics of the space, live performances that resonate with the body, and the introduction of mechanical devices, they are trying to open up new horizons for the stage.
