Business Overview

Tomoko Ando, who was a member of the Tenkei Theatre Company, headed by the late Shogo Ota, in the 1980s and appeared as a central actor in all of their productions, and who is currently active as a performer with ARICA, will be conducting a workshop in India alongside director Yasuki Fujita and text writer Shino Kuraishi. The project will also include director Shankar Venkateswaran, head of Theatre Roots & Wings in South India, and his producer Satoko Tsurudome. Shankar will help coordinate the workshop as a dramaturge, while Satoko Tsurudome will be responsible for the production of the project within India. The workshop will be held with rotating members in representative cities in the north and south of India, Delhi and Bangalore, as well as in Kerala, where Theatre Roots & Wings is based. From 2017 onwards, members selected from this workshop will be joined by new Japanese performers to create and perform works in India, with the goal of further performances in Japan and other countries.

【ARICA】
Established in 2001 with director Yasujo Fujita, actor Tomoko Ando and poet/critic Shino Kuraishi. After that, textile designer Yoko Ando and designer Yuri Suyama joined the group, and now experts in various fields gather. Each work features dancers, actors, musicians and artists, and they continue to release new works. In 2005, he was invited by the Cairo International Experimental Theatre Festival (he won the Best Solo Performance Award) to give his first overseas performance. In 2015, he performed Samuel Beckett's "Happy Days" at the Kerala International Theatre Festival in India, and his activities have expanded both at home and abroad.
