FY26 Phase II Creation Grant [Single-year grant program]

Business Overview

Lecturer: Tsutomu Matsumoto (animation artist) Program: Workshop, screening and performance Overview: In this workshop, children, adults, and even those who are not good at drawing, can work together to create a multi-minute animation by connecting drawings based on their imagination. People who meet at the time and place move their bodies, think, and exchange words to create a story, and in a few hours, they draw hundreds of pictures to create a video. Using the "Emakimono Machine," a video device originally created by Tsutomu Matsumoto, we will share the moment when pictures drawn on scroll-shaped paper move in our own time and rhythm. Japanese animation has become one of the most famous forms of expression in foreign countries, but Tsutomu Matsumoto's works, as if to find a common denominator in traditional Japanese picture scrolls, aim at "visual" expression, which can be called the art of time, in which each picture has a static time and the accumulation of imagination becomes a moving picture. This program allows participants to share moments of imagination by experiencing the process of Matsumoto Tsutomu's video production.
