Profile

[Funaiwa Yuta]
He studied under Mr. Koichi Kimura of the Jinjinkai and Mr. Tatsuo Kaneshita of the theater planning group THE Gazilla. In 2007, he formed a theater group called Sunaji, which he presided over. Since then, he has been involved in the composition and direction of all works on sand. He deeply pursues modernity in classical and modern plays, and pursues realism in theater through extremely standard production methods. He excels at comprehension of plays, and attracted attention with Shakespeare's "Richard the Second" in 2011. His vivid compositions extracting the essence of Shakespeare's classic works and energetic three-dimensional staging are highly appreciated, and has attracted attention as a rare young director specializing in staging existing plays. His masterpieces are Richard II (2011), Disk (2013) and 3 clock (2014).
