Profile
[Sankaijuku]
A dance company established in 1975 by head Amagatsu Ushio. They began performing overseas in 1980 and have performed in more than 700 cities in 45 countries. Mainly based in France, they continue to release new works about once every two years.
The works of Sankaijuku are created by Tenjigyudai not only in terms of direction and choreography, but also in terms of space and costume design. Tenji consistently regards dance as a dialogue with gravity, and approaches the universal human nature of birth and death. His creation of a unique art form (form of expression) based on physical language, the universality of his work, and above all, the artistic intensity of his expression have earned him a reputation around the world.
In 2002, he received the most prestigious performing arts award in England, the 26 th Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Dance. Toki won the Grand Prix of the 6th Asahi Performing Arts Awards and Kirin Dance Support (2007). He received the Japan Foundation Award (2013).
