FY26 Term I Creation Grant [Single-Year Grant Program]

Business Overview

This is the third edition of the D-incline project, which focuses on the body in Baobab's solo performance. In 2013, after 2 works of different nature, D-incline vol. 2 "-W-" and a large-scale work "Homey 1.2.3," his obsession with the body became stronger than before. Focusing on the objectivity and subjectivity of the body, he seeks experimental creations that specialize more in the body, and extracts the human nature and body that oozes out by focusing on the dancers' own lives, rather than just dancing to choreography, and develops them into works. In addition, the game will feature creator Kitao Wataru as a performer. He will also take on his first long-running performance and tour to new regions. I will challenge myself to create a work that maintains its freshness and energy while pursuing a certain degree of fixation and packaging. Choreography, composition and direction: KITAO Wataru

Komaba Agora Theater (Meguro Ward, Tokyo)

Profile

[Baobab]
Director: Wataru Kitao choreographed, composed and directed all the works. In 2009, he started the company with Fuyuko MEZAWA and Saori Yoneda, who were in the same year of Obirin University.
The dance is characterized by an overwhelming group dance with a choreography that has an indigenous and rhythmic dynamic feel. Each work creates a distinct world view while carefully working with the dancers and actors recruited each time. "Sometimes I talk, sometimes I sing, sometimes I laugh a lot, and sometimes I cry." He has attracted attention for his performative works, and his creative activities seem to float between theater and dance.
