Business Overview

EVERYMAN & THE POLE DANCERS (written and directed by Rek Mackayevich) stars Matthew Crosby, Cathorin Doyle, Kazuto Shimamoto, Keina Denda, Nobuko Miura, Hirotaka Someno, and others. Music by Noriko Tadano (Tsugaru shamisen). This is the story of a three-generation family: a grandfather and grandmother tormented by memories of war, a father unable to escape past sins, a mother realizing she is gay, a granddaughter worried she is not loved by her family, and a grandson obsessed with money. A family on the brink of collapse, seemingly on the brink of destruction, is depicted as Everyman appears repeatedly between the audience and the actors, attempting to save the family. Inspired by his observations of contemporary Japan through television since 2011, author Mackayevich's latest work explores the truth of the "last days of humanity," a reality only announced by a television set, portraying it as a passing circus illusion. Japanese and Australian actors, using their own languages, alternate between English and Japanese, creating a sense of realism. He uses a variety of visuals, expresses modern media, and layers pop culture into his complex and imaginative productions.
