Business Overview
Music from Japan (MFJ) will hold a joint program "The Sound of East Asia" by Japan, China, South Korea and the U.S. and "Commission-commissioned music highlights" by Japanese composers in the U.S., Tokyo and other locations to celebrate its 40 year anniversary. "The Sound of East Asia" traces the history and culture of music shared by the three countries through a program that includes new works commissioned by American composer Ned Rosenberg for Mayumi Miyata (Japanese sho), Wu Man (Chinese pipa), and Jin Hee Kim (Korean komungo), as well as traditional pieces. In addition, a concert in which musicians who excel in contemporary music introduce new works commissioned by Michio Kitazume and Yoichi Sugiyama, as well as pieces commissioned by Japanese composers in the past, will be held especially in Tokyo, and we hope to introduce Tokyo residents to our achievements over 40 years. Performers in Tokyo included Aki TAKAHASHI (piano), Yasunori YAMAGUCHI (percussion instrument), Mutsumi HATANO (mezzo-soprano), Yasuaki ITAKURA (clarinet), Norio SATO (guitar), Takeshi SASAMOTO (haisho), Reigakusha (gagaku ensemble) and others.
