Business Overview
"Are fertility woes in developed countries interchangeable with poverty in developing countries?"― Finalist for the 18 Playwrights Guild Newcomer Drama Prize ― Synopsis Sunako, a 37 year-old career woman with a high salary, feels uneasy about not being married as she approaches 40. She was pressured by her family to get married and have children, so she married Junichi Ashida, whom she met at an arranged marriage. However, their happy honeymoon is short-lived when cancer is discovered in Sunako's uterus, and she immediately undergoes surgery to remove the entire tumor. The only way for Sunako to have a baby was through surrogacy. But neither her mother nor her sister agreed to be her surrogate mother. The only alternative was to seek a surrogate mother abroad. When Sunako learns of a clinic in India that offers outsourced childbirth for foreigners, she takes the last resort .... 【 Gekidan Impression- indian elephant-】
The Gekidan Impression- indian elephant- was founded in 2003 by playwright and director Atsuto Suzuki. Based on the belief that "play transcends national borders," he aims to create works that can be enjoyed beyond the barriers of language and culture by using the imagination born from "play," and to send out performing arts that will drastically change the impression of everyday life and scenery that the audience sees when they leave the theater.
Major awards: The Global Baby Factory was a finalist for the 18 Playwrights Association New Drama Award. He won the Excellence Award and Audience Award at the Young Producers Contest 2012 for "Aoki."
