FY 2013 Phase I Tokyo Arts and Culture Promotion Grant (Single Year Grant Program)

Business Overview
This performance is held every year to commemorate the recognition of Nohgaku as a precious human asset to be handed down to future generations. In this fiscal year, the contents of the program were greatly revised, and the program structure of each part was elaborated so that more people could become familiar with Nohgaku in two parts, and the contents were made so that people could fully enjoy the charm of Nohgaku. The five schools of shite-kata perform in each part, and in the daytime part, you can enjoy the original charm of Noh with the selection of pieces based on Kami, Otoko, Onna, Mad, and Oni (five groups of Noh), and in the nighttime part, the same program is performed by each school, so that you can enjoy the differences between the schools and the fans can enjoy it more. The performers were mainly those who would represent the next Nohgaku world. In order to understand the lines of Noh chants, each section made use of the liquid crystal super caption display (in Japanese and English) installed at the back of the front seats in the National Noh Theater, and distributed free introductory booklets in Japanese, Korean, Chinese, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian and Arabic that explain Noh plays, so as to recommend Noh plays to first-time audiences.
