FY 2013 Phase I Tokyo Arts and Culture Promotion Grant (Single Year Grant Program)

Business Overview
This is a unique concert where you can enjoy and think about the relationship between music and technology. A thrilling collaboration between the music machines of Martin Ritges, an artist known worldwide as the creator of automatic playing machines, and the brilliant minds of modern music. His machines were created on the basis of the automatic machine (robot) culture and ideas of the 18 century. Controlled by 21 century computer software, it becomes possible to play together with acoustic instruments, a truly hybrid music. Composers from Japan, Germany and Britain, including Miwa Masahiro, contributed music. For the performance, soloists from Japan, the United States and Italy were invited, and an ensemble of Japanese and German musicians was formed. Global collaboration is realized.
