Business Overview

Ladakh, in the northernmost part of India, is located in the Himalayan (meaning "home of snow" in Sanskrit) mountains at an altitude of more than 3300 meters. For a long time, a subsistence lifestyle based on snowmelt had been established. Yak and pashmina herders live at an altitude of 4000 m to 5000 m. Ladakh nomads are being forced to change their livelihoods due to the huge impacts of climate change, such as the retreat of snow cover in the Himalayas. The purpose of this project is to focus on the current situation through art. Paintings and murals by Ladakh artists were exhibited, and works created using soil from Ladakh by Japanese artist Yusuke Asai were exhibited and screened. The exhibition conveyed what was happening in the region and deepened thoughts. To create an opportunity to recognize that what is happening to nomads due to global warming is not just a fire on the other side of the pond, but also that we, who live in Japan, are partly to blame, and to look at life in Japan as a global problem. The three artists invited from Ladakh are Chemat Dorjey, Tsering Youdol and Jamyang Namgail.
