Business Overview

It is a performance that fuses' kouta 'and' Japanese art, 'based on events such as the 24 divisions of the solar year and the five seasonal festivals, as well as ways of living. It consists of 31 kouta pieces performed by Mieka SENSHI and Misaki KOUTA, and 48 ukiyo-e prints by Hokusai KATSUSHIKA and Hiroshige UTAGAWA, depicting the changing seasons and the lives of people in Edo. Katsushika Hokusai, the father and daughter of Katsushika Hokusai, who lived in the Sumida River area all his life, and the Tatsumi Geisha and the boatman created conversations, and the rakugo storytellers in charge created an atmosphere in which the audience felt as if they were strolling through Edo. In addition, the musical accompaniment of flutes, drums and gongs enhanced the sense of presence of the scenes. Introducing the origins and meanings of the seasonal periods and events, the exhibition provided an opportunity to rediscover the richness of the climate and culture of the Sumida River basin and the splendor of traditional performing arts and Japanese art.

Profile

[Ming dusk kouta]
A kouta performance unit composed of kouta performers, Mie Senshi and Komi Kouta. With ukiyoe prints featuring mainly KATSUSHIKA Hokusai as the backdrop, he has performed the Hokusai Kouta series since 2021. In 2023, he planned and held a concert in which he performed with Bunraku puppets of Ningyo Joruri. In addition, a video of a performance at a building designated as an important cultural property in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, was released on YouTube. The group has been working to improve the recognition and spread of kouta as a traditional performing art by continuing activities that do not adhere to the conventional style of kouta concerts, such as kouta concerts featuring sake and Japanese sweets hosted by the Sake Information Center in Japan.
