Business Overview

This project was a duo recital that explored how Western music could be made to resonate with traditional Japanese instruments. Featuring Reiko Aoki (koto and kokyu/arrangement) and Nanako Torigoe (17-string kokyu and shamisen/arrangement), the main pieces included the second movement of "Summer" from Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" (koto and 17-string kokyu), Saint-Saëns' "Danse Macabre" (17-string kokyu), Tadao Sawai's "Hymn" (koto solo), and Michio Miyagi's "London Night Rain" (koto solo). After repeated live performances and revisions, the performances received a positive response that will lead to further performances and recordings.
