FY2026 Traditional Arts Practice Grant

"Traditional Arts Practice Grant" subsidizes a project that is easy for even first-timers to enter and allows one participant to experience the same event multiple times. The purpose of this program is to promote traditional performing arts by providing opportunities to experience the fun of traditional performing arts and by connecting them to the expansion of people who take root in their daily lives and go to practice on a daily basis.

Implementation period of the target project
Projects beginning on or after September 1, 2026 and ending by August 31, 2027

This subsidy program supports efforts to promote traditional performing arts by increasing the number of people who participate in hands-on experience. The program is intended to be an entry point (a trigger) to daily practice that is easy to enter even for first-timers, allows one participant to experience the practical skills of the same event multiple times, and encourages participants to continue the practical experience.
A project that satisfies all of the following requirements
(1) The project is centered on actual practical experience, such as playing musical instruments, dancing and acting, and practicing flower arrangement, tea ceremony, and calligraphy
(2) The project is not a one-off experience, but has a mechanism that allows one participant to experience the same event multiple times over a certain period of time. Those who have not experienced the traditional performing arts in the field can participate.
(3) Participants should be invited to the general public.
Applicants who are eligible
Organizations whose head office or head office is located in Tokyo (Theatres, music halls, arts organizations, NPOs, executive committees, etc.)
* Corporate status and type are not considered.
* Foundations and private companies that operate public theaters, public halls, etc. can apply if they are the organizers or co-organizers of the project.
* An application can also be made by an external organization that conducts cultural projects in a ward, municipality in Tokyo, or a designated manager of a public cultural facility in a ward, municipality, as long as they are the organizer or co-organizer of the project.
* The national government, local governments, and Tokyo Metropolitan Government Policy Collaborative Organizations cannot be applicants.
* Please note that a business conducted by a sole proprietor using a trade name is not recognized as an organization.

Traditional Japanese Performing Arts
・ Kigaku (Gagaku, koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, flute, Nohgaku-bayashi, Hogaku-bayashi, etc.)
・ Utaimono (Sokyoku, jiuta, nagauta, kouta, etc.)
・ Kataramono (Various joruri, Heike, biwagaku, yokyoku, etc.)
・ Theater (Noh and Kyogen)
・ Buyo (Japanese dance)
・ Kado (flower arrangement)
・ Sado (tea ceremony)
・ Calligraphy
* Intangible Folk Cultural Properties (folk performing arts and customs) that have been passed down in specific regions are not eligible.

* Co-sponsored projects and affiliated projects with facilities managed and operated by Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture are not eligible for subsidies.
*Projects sponsored or co-sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government or Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, or projects that have been provided with subsidies, support funds, subsidies, commission fees, etc. from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, or projects that are scheduled to be paid, are not eligible for subsidies. However, you can apply for this grant for projects that are or are scheduled to be subsidized by Arts Council Tokyo under the "Grant for Accessibility".
