The "Metote Lab" is a laboratory that aims to create a place (home) for the emergence of each individual's senses and language, with the main participants being Deaf people, people with hearing loss, and CODAs (people with Deaf parents) who speak visual language (Japanese Sign Language). We are conducting various projects with the theme of cultivating a natural culture consisting of visual language.
One of these activities is the "Archive Project," in which home videos taken at homes of Deaf people are invited as guests to watch them together.
Home Video Appreciation Event
The home video recorded in the home of the Deaf person is invited as a guest to watch it with the participants.
Sign language is used to communicate with family members at home or when going out, when meeting friends or in classrooms, and in various situations in our lives.
In addition to collecting these various aspects of life and culture, we are creating a place for dialogue through appreciation.
About the project
This time, the event was held in Suginami Ward in cooperation with the Tokyo International Deaf Art Festival.
On the day of the event, videos that have been screened as part of the home video viewing event will be exhibited and shown, and the person in charge of the archive project will give an explanation.
In addition, a home video viewing event for the Deaf living in Suginami Ward will be held once each in the morning and afternoon, and the person who provided the video will be invited as a guest to watch the video together with the participants and talk about their thoughts and background.
Why don't you feel the reality of Deaf people's lives?
*This project is being held in collaboration with the Tokyo International Festival for the Deaf.
