Legal Studies Course 2025
A course to acquire basic knowledge of laws and systems related to the field of art and culture, and knowledge useful for activities.
In fiscal 2025, we aim to strengthen the foundation of creative activities by offering practical courses that provide advice on legal practices in creative activities based on specific cases, as well as courses that reflect on the basics of copyright, essential knowledge about photography, distribution, and SNS, and AI.
Q&A on legal practice in creative activities (regular course)
This course provides students with basic knowledge of laws and systems related to the arts and culture fields, as well as knowledge that will be useful for their activities. Lecturers who specialize in providing legal support in the arts and culture fields will provide practical advice in a Q&A format based on specific cases that students face in the creative field.

Introduction to Copyright for Art and Culture (Follow-up Course)
The lectures in fiscal 2023 provided basic knowledge about copyright in artistic and cultural activities by explaining what kind of information constitutes copyright, what kind of use is allowed and where is not allowed, who the rights belong to, and what kinds of exceptions do not require permission.
In this lecture, Professor Kensaku Fukui is invited as a lecturer to further deepen the practical knowledge of copyright that is useful for creative activities.

Essential Rights Knowledge for Photography, Distribution, and SNS (Follow-up Lecture)
In fiscal 2023, participants deepened their legal understanding of rights related to filming, distribution, and posting of videos on social networking sites. It explains basic knowledge about the use of music for posting, rights of performers and sound sources (neighboring rights), points to be noted when handling music rights (Shooting and synchronizing, SNS and blanket contract, master rights processing, etc.), and issues and countermeasures regarding portrait rights and corporate logos.
In this lecture, we will welcome Professor Takuo Ohashi as a lecturer again from the previous lecture, and we will deepen our learning about rights processing related to photography, distribution, and SNS.

Appropriate ways to interact and use AI (close-up lecture)
With the advent of generative AI, the relationship between AI and copyright has come into focus. In the lecture in fiscal 2024, we explained how AI learns copyrighted works, how AI products are similar to copyrighted works, and the possibility of protecting AI products. In this course, we will review the basics and share updated information on the latest trends to further deepen our legal understanding of how to properly interact and use AI for those who are responsible for art and culture.

How Much Similarity Is Infringement? (Follow-up Lecture)
In the course held in fiscal 2023, we explained the criteria for determining copyright infringement through court cases in which copyright infringement was recognized and not recognized. The issues of parody, derivative works, mimicry and publicity rights, and the issues of copyright in the metaverse and generative AI were explained in an easy-to-understand manner by referring to specific cases.
In this lecture, we will welcome Professor Makoto Ito as a lecturer again from the previous lecture. He will answer questions from the participants and learn the criteria for judging copyright infringement.
