【 Open call 】Tokyo Artist Accelerator Program (TAAP) 2nd term supporting artists

Program to support young artists in the art and video fields who wish to be active in the art market

Focusing on the presentation of the work by the artist himself, it supports from both sides of improving the ability to talk about the work and strengthening the concept.
In addition to providing highly flexible production support funds to selected supporting artists, the program provides continuous mentoring over eight months with diverse specialists in contemporary art and creates opportunities for young artists originating in Tokyo to make international strides by giving speeches to people in contemporary art in Japan and overseas.

Target Artists

All the requirements listed in the following items shall be satisfied.

  1. Individuals living in Japan who wish to be active in the Tokyo art market
  2. Applicants must be able to participate in exchange meetings, interim debriefing sessions, mentoring leading to presentations and presentation of results (TAAP Live) to be held during the next fiscal year (April to November 2025).
  3. Adequate ability to communicate in Japanese. (Japanese Language Proficiency Test JLPT: N1 Equivalent)
  4. It has been 3 years or more but less than 10 years since the first exhibition of works in the subject field was held in Tokyo. Or, you have exhibited your works in Tokyo (personal exhibitions, etc.) 5 times or more and 10 times or less.

*"3 years or more" ... First solo exhibition held on April 1, 2022.
"Less than 10 years" ... First solo exhibition held on March 31, 2015.
* Only exhibitions held in Tokyo consisting only of the applicant's works will be eligible.
* This does not have to be an exhibition with an individual name, but it is not a group exhibition (an exhibition in which two or more people participate).
* Virtual and online exhibitions are not applicable.

1. Payment of production support funds

We will provide support funds for creative activities and research (scheduled for March 2025).
Production support: 495,000 yen

2.Presentation based mentoring program

Contemporary art specialists from diverse backgrounds, including gallerists, artists, collectors, and curators, will participate in ongoing dialogue with selection committees and mentors. By repeating the process of "Presentation ⇒ Advice ⇒ Mentoring ⇒ Presentation" for 8 months, focusing on the presentation of the supporting artist, we encourage the improvement of the ability to talk about the work and strengthen the concept, and support the growth of the supporting artist. Mentoring also supports networking with arts and culture professionals in Japan and abroad.

3.Conduct TAAP Live 2025

Taking the opportunity of an art event to be held in Tokyo in November 2025 (planned), we will create a stage where supporting artists will speak about their works by themselves to an audience including gallerists, collectors and curators in Japan and overseas.

* The server is expected to be busy on the last day of the application period, so please submit well in advance.


*Personal information filled in the application form and application documents will be managed appropriately in accordance with the provisions of the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture on the protection of personal information. However, it may be provided to external experts or the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for screening and post-evaluation purposes. In addition, we may send you questionnaires about the activities of supporting artists and Arts Council Tokyo projects.
