KINO Meeting, which develops video production projects with "people with overseas roots", has produced video works through various workshops to explore the possibilities of communication and expression that arise in the process. In the field where people with diverse roots work together, expressions are derived from the unique collaborative relationship in which different cultures and perspectives "intersect" starting from the "narration" of individuals, and the film is shaped by the accumulation of these words.
At this film festival, we will screen four films that give a glimpse of the process of film creation from such intersections, from films by KINO Meeting and invited films. In addition, we will hold a talk session inviting the creators and experts of the works to create a place to delve deeper into the appreciation experience and share it.
From the intersection of diverse roots, we invite you to participate in this film festival where you will discover the appeal of being and creating together with others whose roots are different from your own.

Films to be screened
Program A "New Tokyo Tour" + Making

Lee lost his job, broke up with his girlfriend, and is on the verge of losing the meaning of living in this town. One day, after a chance encounter with Toshiki, who has just arrived in the town, Lee becomes involved in Toshiki's sightseeing tour. The story is woven from the stories of the members who were involved in the production and have roots overseas, and depicts the scenery of Tokyo woven by people who arrived there through various routes.
(Production: KINO Meeting /2022 / Subtitles: Japanese / English / 80 minutes)
Program B "Record of Summer Vacation"

Documentary about exchanges with Kurds living in Japan through Japanese language study support. Director Kawada Jun documents Kurdish siblings living in the same apartment building doing their summer homework and their mothers learning Japanese, and focuses on Kurds living as normal, not the tragic refugees reported in the media or the violent beings talked about on social media.
(Director: Atsushi Kawada/2025/Subtitles: English/Japanese/95 min.)
Program C "Human Pyramid"

Abidjan, the capital of the Ivory Coast during the French colonial period. In local high schools, white students and black African students, the children of settlers, attended classes in the same classroom but did not interact with each other in private. Jean Rouche, a pioneer in visual anthropology, invites both groups to interact and suggests that they make a film together.
(Director: Jean Rouch/1961/88 min)
Program D "Offline Hours" + Documentary

Three omnibus movies depicting the small "decisions" of diverse characters who work in offices in Tokyo late at night. The film was produced by a group of 15 members who "also have overseas roots," with different languages, cultures, and experiences in filmmaking. The members alternated roles of director, screenwriter, actor, art, and cinematographer. A companion documentary traces the production process and shows the difficulties and possibilities of collaboration among diverse people.
(Production: KINO Meeting /2025 / Subtitles: Japanese / English / 120 min.)
Program A/B/C/D "Cinema Portrait"

A group of works created through a small "journey" workshop to find one's roots. The workshop participants walk through the city, encounter landscapes that are linked to their roots, and recount stories that the place/moment evoked. * Different works will be shown each time.
(Production: KINO Meeting /2022-2024 / Subtitles: Sun / 10 minutes)
