Business Overview

Kenta Toda, an artist based in Tokyo who has a strong interest in the symbolism, physicality and design of sneakers and creates works based on these motifs, holds a solo exhibition in collaboration with the concept shop CARV STORE in Daikanyama. In this exhibition, new sneakers made of edible beef jerky and chicken skin will be introduced. With the sneakers as "processed meat" that rearranged the relationship between "meat" and "leather" once separated by the livestock industry, the boundary between "food" and "goods" that are distributed separately but are connected is broken, and the exhibition questions what we have revered in our consumer culture.

Profile

[Toda Kenta]
Born in 1996. He taught himself sneaker making techniques and has been based in Tokyo as a shoe maker since 2022. _
He has a strong interest in the symbolism, physicality, and design of sneakers that have become "products of meaning," and created works based on these motifs. By reinterpreting sneakers from a unique perspective in terms of shape, function, materials, manufacturing methods, and usage, we reexamine the cultural symbols, meanings, and physical sensations inherent in sneakers as symbols of consumer society and popular culture. _
