Business Overview

The Music Library of the All Japan Choral Federation is a specialized library of choral music established in 1979 for the purpose of promoting music by collecting a wide range of domestic and foreign choral scores, books, and recordings (CDs, cassette tapes, LP records (including digital libraries)), and conducting research and enlightenment. The project to digitize the collection of LP records, entitled "Choral Music LP Records: Listening to the World of the 20 Century in the Digital Library," has stored the digitally converted sound source data of 60 LP records in the collection, selected by the choral conductor Matsubara Chiburi, together with information such as song titles, composers, performers, publishers, and record release numbers, in a dedicated system that allows users to search and listen to them (in the library). In addition to keeping a record of famous performances, this project conveys the uniqueness of the project and the unique characteristics of LP records as a music medium - such as the size of materials and excellent Japanese manuals - and provides an "encounter with music" for new artistic creation. Release period: July 17, 2024 - December 25 As a related event, the lecture talk video "Questions from LP Records in the 20 Century - Prompted Thoughts" by Mr. Matsubara, the chief conductor of Tokyo Mixed Choir, is distributed in 3 parts from October 8. (Navigator: Vocalist/Choral Conductor Yoshiki Tanimoto) Video Content: 1. "Music of the Durer Era" 2. "Music as Urban Culture" 3. "LP Records of Gregorian Chants" In addition, a special board "Room 45 °" has been set up on Pinterest, a bookmarking tool, to introduce LP records in their collections (by Choral Conductor Kota Yanagishima) and record culture in Japan and abroad, including activities related to LP records in the collections of music libraries and public libraries in Japan that are members of the Music Library Association.

Japan is one of the most popular countries in the world for choral singing. There are tens of thousands of choirs in elementary, middle and high schools, universities, workplaces, mother's choirs and the general public. All the members of these choirs have become familiar with music through the enjoyment of choral singing, and have built a very large foundation for Japanese musical culture.
The All Japan Choral Federation works for the purpose of popularizing and improving choral music, fostering and teaching choirs, and contributing to the development of musical culture.
