Business Overview

Team Chipro's new dance work "nanako by nanako" was performed at YAU CENTER from March 15 to 18th. (Choreography and composition: Team Chipro, Performance: Nanako Matsumoto) The content of this work is a critical re-enactment of the photographic and video analysis methods used to analyze hysteria in the 19 century, using the Bunbunmaru video playback device. In the performance, the artist Eri Saito filmed Matsumoto on black and white film, and Matsumoto himself turned it around, interweaving audio of memories of Matsumoto's adolescent "transformation," records of hysterics, records of Sayo Kitamura, and images of the insect's transformation. Matsumoto danced as if following the images mixed by Matsumoto himself. In traditional transformation stories and hysterical analyses, it has been said that women's bodies are transformed by the strong emotion of jealousy. He considered that the strong emotion of jealousy was a “choreography ” defined by the gaze based on heterosexual norms, and tried to construct a different“ transformation ” choreography in this work. After the performance, she collaborated with artist Nao Usami to produce a video recording the experiment, “nanako by nanako with nao, ” which was released online.
