Business Overview
It is a performance in which five scenes from the first chapter of "The Tale of Genji," 'Kiritsubo,' are combined with reading aloud and koto playing. Konomi MATSUURA read aloud the original text and modern translations by several writers including Nozomu HAYASHI, Junichiro TANIZAKI and Fumiko ENCHI. Music composed by koto player Yagi Michiyori, along with improvised performances and songs, creates a three-dimensional depiction of the story of 1000 years ago. Prof. Hidenori Jinno of Waseda University, who supervised the program, explained the background of the period. Depending on the scene, Yagi made full use of Soh, 17 stringed electric Soh, 21 stringed electric Soh, songs, and electronics to form music that connects the Heian period to the present day. Matsuura invited people of today to the world of the Heian period with the rhythm of the original text and expressions that made use of the individuality of each translator. Performers: Konomi Matsuura (composition, reading) Michiyo Yagi (Composition, Soh, 17 stringed Soh, 21 stringed Soh, Song, Electronics) Hidenori Jinno (supervision, commentary) Staff: Mark Rapaport (music producer, sound) Masakazu Matsuura (stage director, sound) Mika Aoyagi (lighting)

Profile
"Soh Tenshu Execution Committee"
This committee was formed by a reader, Konomi MATSUURA, and a koto player, Michiyori YAGI, in 2011. With the theme of how to express what is behind the words, he is working to create "stories" in three dimensions. This is the 13th performance. With the consent of the author, Matsuura created an original script that was easy to hear and understand so as not to spoil the character of the work. Yagi has created and performed original music with koto and electronics, pursuing a method of playing that makes the best use of the instrument and tone.
"The Tale of Genji" will be made into a series in the future.
