Profile
[ensemble-no]
Founded in 2007 by Noh vocalist Ryoko Aoki, this ensemble pursues and practices the fusion of Noh and contemporary music. It commissions internationally active contemporary music composers to produce works using Noh 'utai' (chant) as a material, and presents a new culture based on traditional Japanese culture and reviews the cultural significance of traditional performing arts in modern times. The aim is to reconstruct the Japanese sense of beauty nurtured through history and tradition and to transmit it to the world.
