Business Overview
With the permission of Danjuro ICHIKAWA, we performed "Yano Ne," one of the 18 best Kabuki plays, which is said to be a representative work of Edo Kabuki, under the guidance of Shorokujo ONOE. "Ninin Wankyu" was performed by Tomijuro NAKAMURA V and Jakuemon NAKAMURA IV at a performance in Paris in December 1997 to great acclaim. It is a wonderful dance work which combines classical dance with a modern sense which can be understood overseas. This time Aiko WATANABE, who is aiming to advance overseas as a Japanese dancer, took charge of Matsuyama and aimed at a new classical work, just as her grandmother Tokuho AZUMA I performed overseas under the name "Azumakabuki". In addition, this performance was promoted to the local community (including public transportation) by co-sponsoring with "Asakusa Kabuki wo kuruukai" (Association for Cultivating Asakusa Kabuki), and the sales of admission tickets were promoted through tie-ups with local shopping districts. Because Asakusa is the birthplace of Edo Kabuki, the staging was designed to give the audience a sense of that atmosphere. In order to increase the number of spectators among young people, tickets for students were provided, childcare facilities were set up so that those in the child-rearing age group could see Kabuki, and earphone guides were lent free of charge so that first-time audiences could easily understand Kabuki.

At present, Takanosuke NAKAMURA (the eldest son of Tomijuro the fifth), who succeeded Takanosuke, is working hard to spread the classical performing arts.
