Business Overview
Hiyu Izaka and Benjamin Efrati of the artist collective The Intersection of Universes (IoU) stayed at Dimensions Art Center, an artist-in-residence in Chongqing, China, to conduct fieldwork in Chongqing and other surrounding cities and open the exhibition "IoU: [Forbidden Zone]". "IoU: [Forbidden Zone]" explored new contemporary aspects of ancient Chinese spiritual practices and myths within the framework of digital technology. Taoist, shamanic, and Buddhist myths are incorporated into the narratives of the VR creations, with viewers playing the role of cyber shamans. Through the installation surrounding the VR piece, IoU encouraged the audience to think about this concept of intersection. The exhibition allowed us to share the production process and deepen dialogue with a large audience, including artists, curators and researchers from Chongqing. By integrating not only the technical aspects of VR, but also the philosophical aspects, he asked what VR means today. Through the residency process, I was able to have a lively and productive interaction with the Chongqing art scene, and realized the possibilities of developing the collective's activities in different contexts, building networks, and creating more diverse collaborative works. Through this residency, I was able to deepen my understanding of Chinese cultural motifs and gain a deeper understanding of China's cultural transitions over the past several thousand years.

Profile
[Intersection Of Univers]
Intersection Of Univers is an interdisciplinary art project founded in 2019 by media artists Hiiragi Isaka and Benjamin Efrati. They create interactive multimedia installations, VR productions, and 3DCG images, and work on a global scale focusing on the different meanings of "cyber shamanism" in different cultural contexts, with the aim of establishing the intersection of human desires for digital technology, ecology, and spirituality.
[Hiiragi Isaka]
Artist. Through field research in Chernobyl and volcanic areas, he has published many works on the theme of "phenomena occurring between urban society and the natural environment." While enrolled in the doctoral course of the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, he created a real-time 3DCG video installation called "The Sprite," in which he collected hypothetical discourse within an invisible realm composed of legal space and electromagnetic phenomena.
Benjamin Efrati
Media artist and philosopher. Based on performance, he is involved in music, sound art, film directing and graphic arts. His specialty is the intersection of digital technology and prehistory, a theme he has been working on as an artist since 2014. He is currently a PhD student at EHESS (Paris), conducting research using an anthropological approach to prehistoric video game representation.
