Business Overview

This exhibition is an attempt to raise questions about the nature of human beings, starting with language and bodily sensations, with the theme of the reconstruction of senses and physicality, and with the participation of Deaf artists and listeners who use sign language as their first language. The three exhibitors are Eri Makihara, Creole Project and Natsumi Kanno. During the exhibition, performances, artist talks with curators and experts, film screenings, Work-in-Progress video screenings, workshops, and gallery tours were also held, aiming to form new connections toward research networks and collaborations in various fields. In the end, through exhibitions and various programs, we created a place where we could physically feel the collective "~" and discuss the possibilities of artistic expression with language and bodily sensations.

Profile

【Re; Signing Project ”
An art project exploring new possibilities for artistic expression by the Deaf and sending questions to society. “Re” means“ rebirth ” or “identity reconstruction, ” and“ Signing” means “people speaking in sign language ” or“ speaking in sign language. ”. It was established in 2022 with the hope that Deaf artists would be involved in the planning and management of Deaf people, communicate the reality of Deaf people's lives, the language of sign language, and Deaf culture to many people through art, try to rebuild identity and relationship between Deaf people and listeners, and become a place that encompasses various forms of artistic expression.
