Business Overview

China is now the world's highest-grossing film market and the second-most-produced film market. On the other hand, film culture is still strongly regulated by the state. Authoritarian cinema in China has always made its mark, balancing state regulation. A new generation born after the Tiananmen Square incident is breathing new life into contemporary film expression in China, which is currently in the midst of drastic political and social changes. There are six programs showing representative films of recent years that show the "present" and "future" of Chinese cinema. A symposium was also held to introduce the current state of independent Chinese cinema.
